Use in landscaping projects
The silk tree (Albizia julibrissin) brings an exotic touch to gardens, hotel and restaurant terraces, courtyards and parks. Its fine, fern-like foliage gives light shade, and the fluffy pink flowers appear from June to August, when few trees are still in bloom.
Planting and spacing
It forms a broad, umbrella-shaped crown of 6–8 m. It prefers warm, sunny sites sheltered from cold winds and well-drained soils. Plant in spring so it can root before winter.
Care and maintenance
Once established it tolerates drought and heat well. Young plants are protected in their first winters by mulching the base. It comes into leaf late, only at the end of spring – this is normal for the species. Prune at the end of winter.
