Use in landscaping projects
The Judas tree is one of the most spectacular spring-flowering trees: the flowers appear directly on the branches and trunk before the leaves. It is used as a specimen in gardens, at entrances, in parks and courtyards, and in residential street plantings.
Planting and spacing
It reaches 6–10 m, often multi-stemmed with a broad crown. It prefers warm, sunny sites and well-drained soils, including calcareous ones. Larger specimens are planted root-balled, as the deep roots dislike transplanting.
Care and maintenance
Once established it tolerates drought and heat well. Keep pruning to a minimum, after flowering. It is hardy to about -20°C; in colder regions plant in sheltered sites.
