Use in landscaping projects
Norway maple is one of the most used trees in Central and Eastern European towns: avenues, boulevards, parks, school yards and car parks. Its dense, rounded crown gives good shade, and the yellow flowers appear before the leaves in early spring.
Planting and spacing
It reaches 20–25 m. In avenues it is planted 8–12 m apart. It adapts to most soils, including calcareous ones, and tolerates pollution and heat. Plant in autumn or spring and stake.
Care and maintenance
Water regularly in the first years. Formative pruning is done in late summer or winter, not in spring, when maples bleed sap. It is very frost-hardy (to about -30°C).
