Use in landscaping projects
Silver maple is chosen when shade is wanted quickly: it grows much faster than most park trees. It is used in large parks, recreation areas, along water and in wide green spaces, where its broad crown and silvery leaves create a bright effect.
Planting and spacing
It reaches 20–25 m with a broad crown. Plant as a specimen or in groups, at least 10 m from buildings. It also tolerates moist, even temporarily flooded soils, and prefers sun.
Care and maintenance
The wood is more brittle than in other maples, so it is not recommended next to buildings, car parks or playgrounds, where branches may break in storms. Formative pruning when young strengthens the crown structure. It is very frost-hardy.
