Use in landscaping projects
Lombardy poplar is one of the fastest solutions for tall screens against wind, dust and view around farms, warehouses, industrial zones and large plots. It is also used in rows along roads and canals as a vertical landscape accent.
Planting and spacing
It reaches 25–30 m but stays narrow. For screens plant 2–4 m apart, in rows 4–6 m. It adapts to most soils and tolerates moist ones. Its roots are strong and extensive, so plant it well away from buildings, pipes and foundations.
Care and maintenance
It grows very fast in the first years and needs little care. It is very frost-hardy. It has a shorter lifespan than other park trees; dead branches are removed periodically.
