Use in landscaping projects
Bluebeard flowers at the end of summer, when few shrubs are still in flower, bringing a rare blue to planting schemes. It is used in borders, sunny beds, gravel gardens, pollinator gardens and in combination with ornamental grasses and lavender.
Planting and spacing
It reaches 60–100 cm. Plant 3–4 plants per square metre. It needs full sun and well-drained, even dry soil; it does not tolerate waterlogging.
Care and maintenance
In spring, as growth starts, cut plants back to 15–20 cm above the ground – it flowers on new wood. In very cold winters the shoots may freeze back, but the plant regrows from the base. It tolerates drought well.
