Use in landscaping projects
Box-leaf honeysuckle (Lonicera nitida) forms low hedges and dense borders with small, glossy, evergreen leaves. It is increasingly used as an alternative to box (Buxus), which is badly affected by the box tree moth. It suits formal gardens, path edging, parks, school yards and residential landscaping.
Planting and spacing
For borders and low hedges, 3–4 plants per linear metre are planted. It tolerates sun and partial shade and adapts to most soils. Planting can be done from spring to autumn.
Care and maintenance
It grows fast and tolerates repeated trimming very well – two or three times a year for crisply shaped borders. It is hardy to about -15°C. In the first year after planting, water regularly during dry spells.
