Use in landscaping projects
Gaura (Gaura lindheimeri) is an airy perennial with fine stems and small white or pink flowers that seem to float above the plant like butterflies. It flowers for a very long time, from June until autumn, and is used in naturalistic beds, gravel gardens, roundabouts and drought-resistant green spaces.
Planting and spacing
Plant 5–7 plants per square metre in full sun and well-drained soil. It has a deep taproot that helps it withstand drought but makes it hard to move once established.
Care and maintenance
It is very drought- and heat-tolerant and needs no fertiliser. Excess winter wet is the main risk, so drainage is essential. Stems are cut back in spring to 10–15 cm above the ground.
Frequently asked questions
