Use in landscaping projects
Hardy geranium is one of the most reliable perennials for ground cover in public and private green spaces: under trees, in borders, on slopes, in shady gardens and with roses and shrubs. Some species, such as Geranium macrorrhizum, have aromatic leaves and stay almost green in winter.
Planting and spacing
Plant 6–8 plants per square metre. It tolerates sun, partial and full shade and adapts to most soils, including dry ones. It quickly forms a dense carpet that suppresses weeds.
Care and maintenance
After the first flush of flowers the plants can be cut back for repeat flowering and compact foliage. It needs no feeding or regular watering once established. Hardy to about -25°C.
