Use in landscaping projects
Heuchera (coral bells) is valued above all for its foliage: leaves in shades of green, burgundy, purple, caramel or silver, decorative almost all year. It is used in shady beds, borders, planters, at the base of trees and in combinations with hosta, ferns and ornamental grasses in gardens and green spaces at offices or hotels.
Planting and spacing
Plant 5–7 plants per square metre in partly shaded sites and rich, well-drained soils. The crown (base of the plant) should not be buried too deep.
Care and maintenance
Heuchera needs constant moisture but does not tolerate waterlogging, especially in winter. Every 3–4 years clumps can be divided in spring to rejuvenate them. Dead leaves are removed in spring. It is hardy to about -20°C.
Frequently asked questions
