Use in landscaping projects
White obedient plant (Physostegia virginiana 'Alba') is a perennial with elegant spikes of white flowers from July to September. Its name comes from the fact that the flowers stay in whatever position they are moved to. It is used in beds, borders, naturalistic gardens and for cut flowers.
Planting and spacing
Plant 5–7 plants per square metre in sun or partial shade, in moist, fertile soils. It spreads by rhizomes and can become vigorous, so leave room or use an edging barrier.
Care and maintenance
It needs watering in dry periods. Stems are cut to ground level in autumn or spring. Every few years clumps are divided to control spreading.
